"South by Southwest may have people all over the country flocking to Austin at the moment, but if you ask us, the best Texas attraction is still about three hours east. We first heard the siren call of this Neo-Georgian estate in Houston when we published the home in our last fall issue, and we haven’t been able to get it out of heads ever since. The original architecture from the 1930s by legendary Texan architect John Staub gets a dose of modern updating with brand new interiors by Laura Umansky.
There’s something about the flirty, colorfully upholstered furniture and the subtle metallic touches throughout that hits all the right feminine notes without detracting from the strong, traditional detailing. “Our main goal was to modernize it and make the living spaces about family and fun,” says the homeowner. “We wanted it to feel sophisticated but not pretentious.”
