Artist Spotlight: Carylann Loeppky

Carylann Loeppky is an emerging Vancouver painter, designer and visual artist. Her images feel familiar and evoke Victorian and early 1900s portraiture with an underpinning of Baroque Noir Impressionism. With roots in the music industry, Carylann was nominated for several Junos awards for “best album cover design”, prior to her painting career.

Her work is inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales, which she calls GRIMMAGE. The interpretation is “Grimage” or “Grim Image” The untold tale.

Her debut Vernissage was at BBAM Gallery in Montreal on April 05, 2012. Carylann paints portraits and figures in an abstract style, exploring and combining technique with subject matter.

She references Old Masters and Impressionists, incorporating layering methods of painting and glazing developed in her design work. Layering, sanding, and scratching are used in order to blend and soften, bringing out small details.

Carylann’s portraits have a unique intimacy, they tend to be quite small and can take up to one year to complete.

Her work has been described as: Marie Antoinette meets Francis Bacon, or Tim Burton-esque; both are accurate. “Carylann, your paintings rock. They are sensitive, engaging, individual and EXCELLENT !!!” - Dan McCaw, American Impressionist painter

Carylann is excited to share her New York City debut on October 9th, 154 Stanton Street, NYC, NY
